These new paintings are an exploration of the ancient and a bit of the surreal, where inspiration from antiquity, particularly the enigmatic standing stones such as Stonehenge and Dolmen are a further development from the 2017 to 2019 paintings. These monolithic structures, shrouded in mystery, serve as a profound source of fascination, their true purpose lost to time yet evoking a sense of magic and wonder. This creative process unfolds organically, with one shape leading to another in a fluid and intuitive manner. The result is a hint of surrealism that permeates the works, driven by the subconscious mind, and creativity is allowed to flow freely. The intention behind these paintings is to assemble various shapes, stacking them in such a way that they appear almost magically possible, defying the constraints of the two-dimensional canvas. The brushwork in these paintings is characterised by a newfound freedom and abstraction, marking a departure from earlier works. This expressive approach adds dynamism to the pieces, allowing the colours and forms to dance across the canvas, enhancing the overall sense of magic and wonder. (close)
